His father, A. Jainulabdeen, was an imam a religious leader at a local mosque and also a boat owner while his mother, Ashiamma, was a homemaker. Jainulabdeen himself built a wooden sailboat with the help of his relative, Ahmed Jalaluddin and that boat was employed to transport Hindu pilgrims back and forth between Rameswaram to Dhanushkodi.
